August, 2008 Some time ago I was asked to share my view of what the church is, I stated that it is a family of believers. I like the word 'family' as it describes what we are. A family works together, prays together and worships together. When we work together and we don't care who gets all the credit, we accomplish much for His glory. Did you know that our Lord says that nothing that we do in His name goes unnoticed. I am truly amazed by ?our family' . . . your goodness and openness to being used of God is an inspiration to everyone. In reality, what you are doing is no small matter. All of what you are doing makes a big difference in the life of the church. God recognizes your commitment to ministry and will bless the church in ways that will challenge all of us to be even better servants in the months and years ahead. This might seem a bit extreme, but what do you want people to remember you by when you die? "She had a street named after her";" He came to church every Sunday"; "He liked to fish"; "He loved to golf"; "He died rich". I do not know about you, but when I die, I want to be able to stand in the presence of Jesus and look back over my life and see that it counted for something. I want to have a life of significance. I want to be able to look back and see that my life made a difference in the lives of other people. I keep coming back to a basic principle that I see in the life of Jesus and that is that people are important. Therefore, if you want to be blessed, satisfied and fulfilled in this life, you've got to pour yourself into the lives of others. You've got to pour yourself into the life of your ?church family'. Pour yourself into the lives of God's people and others and I guarantee you that all that you do will be significant. All the trophies and achievements of this world are nothing in comparison with the reward of being significant in God's Kingdom. You want to be great in God's Kingdom? Then be a servant. Have a servant's heart. There is so much we can learn from each other as we seek to honor the Lord with our lives. "Servant-hood is a choice we make to minister to others." John Wesley had this to say about what it means to be a true servant: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you can." Ministry is a joy when we are serving HIM together!
