June 2006

When you receive this edition of your June newsletter, school will have ended for the summer.  We will again have our "Summer for the Savior" church wide activities that will be fun, inspirational and encouraging.  Consult the church calendars and pray for each and every activity scheduled for this summer.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Min. of Education/Youth Search Team for their outstanding work.  The Search team was formed in November of 2005 and after many meetings, prayers and more meetings they brought to the church a recommendation to extend a call to Bro. Marcus Daly.  The Search team members are:  Scott Young, chairperson, Leslie Brock, Paula Burden, Kim Reams and Trent Weaver. Serving as Ex offcio members were:  David Webb, Monty Hagstrom and Bro. Hale, Pastor.  Thank you for your faithfulness to the task!

On Saturday, May 6th, Bro. Marcus, Kathleen, Sarah, Mary and Paul moved to Walton, KY.  Bro. Marcus is a graduate of Laurel County High School and has an earned Bachelor of Arts degree from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College.  He has additional studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.  He comes to us with experience in both Education and Youth Ministry.  He was licensed and ordained to the Ministry by the Hart Baptist Church of London, KY.  Please welcome him and his family to our church family and pray for his ministry here at FBC.

Many years ago I had someone ask me a very interesting question.  "What is the ultimate goal of the church?"  I thought how to answer that as briefly as I could so I borrowed a phrase my Pastor would often use:  "Our Goal is Souls".  It is the heartbeat of God for the church to be involved in reaching people, teaching people, and encouraging them to fulfill the work and calling of God.  Yes, our Goal is Souls.  An expanded response to this question can be found on the front page of our weekly church bulletin.  At the bottom of the church bulletin you will find our Mission Statement, which expresses the overall goal, purpose and mission of First Baptist Church.

Working together we can make this the greatest "Summer for the Savior" in terms of souls saved, mission opportunities and spiritual growth.  God bless as together we serve the Lord.
