June marks the beginning of summer and the long-awaited vacation that we all look forward to. The kids are out of school, the days are longer and the weather begs for us to spend time outside in the daylight hours. Many of us will try to pack as much activity into our days as possible and the exhaustion of the effort added to our normal work routines will leave us spent for any other events. Often, the summer schedule finds us leaving the Lord out of our busy days promising Him that we will re-connect when summer is over and the kids are back in school. Worship attendance, Bible study and financial support will lag behind due to our temporary lack of commitment.
I have always found that the summer months offer great opportunities for outreach and connecting to people through a number of creative ways. Picnics, concerts, movies, games, field trips and other types of activities can reach the unchurched with the Gospel in a way that may have been unlikely in previous months. It is a great time for Sunday School classes, Bible study groups, adult, youth and children ministries to invite individuals and families to activities away from the church campus that would introduce them to some of the finest folks around.
National surveys have indicated that 84% of all adults who are unchurched would attend if invited. Look round your neighborhood, business and social gatherings for anyone not involved in a church group and invite them to yours. My prayer is that we reach out in the next few months to those around us. Who knows? Maybe we will invite that person who has just been waiting for an opportunity to see what the talk is all about concerning the Lord’s activity in our community.
Thank you, in advance, for your faithfulness and dedication to the Lord.
On behalf of the unchurched, thank you for your invitation.
In Christ alone!!!!
